The State of Arkansas receives federal funding through the Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention Block Grant. These funds are divided between regional providers to provide treatment for those with substance misuse disorders and regional providers to provide substance misuse prevention programs and services.
Beginning May 1, 2024, RSI is contracted with the state to provide substance misuse prevention services in the northeast region of the state, including Clay, Craighead, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, and Randolph counties. From our Jonesboro office, located at 2224 Conrad, Suite A, program staff will work with community organizations, schools, and others to help reduce the use of substances, to address policies and norms that impact rates of substance misuse, and to provide community education.

This program regularly needs volunteers, particularly youth volunteers, to help with program efforts. If you want to be involved, please reach out to us at info@researchsolutionsinc.org.
Data from SAMHSA indicates that approximately 1 in 8 youth lives in a home with at least one parent with past-year substance use disorder.
Studies also show that one of the main reasons those suffering from substance use disorders do not get help is the stigma associated with having a substance use disorder or being in treatment or recovery. Fear of loss of community standing, family support, or employment can prevent those in most need from seeking help.

Stigma is a negative association connected to a condition or state of being that is generally outside the control of the individual. Mental health disorders and substance use disorders are just two examples where having a disease is often considered a character flaw instead of an illness. We need to replace judgmental attitudes toward these with love and acceptance in order to help our communities.
Serving Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, and Randolph counties in Arkansas, this project operates under the NEA CommUNITY Resource Center. For more information on the project, please check the tab for that project.
Building bridges in communities to connect legal, medical, mental health, treatment, and first responder organizations to each other and to strengthen community ties is the a major goal of this program. A holistic approach that connects everyone can help build community capacity to deal with substance use disorder and to reduce the stigma associated with it.
